Fossil hunters come here to look for remains of tiny prehistoric sea creatures in the limestone cliffs along the river and old railroad cuts. I can honestly say I wish I had been on this trail sooner. The trail itself is in pretty good shape, and no trail is perfect. I made it to Dyersville for my lunch break. This trail is our pride and joy and is ideal for running, walking, biking or rollerblading. I would avoid this trail on a road bike. Was at Monroe, Airport Park, and there are NO MARKINGS as to where one is to enter trail. This trail is really nice. However, if you wish to start at there very tip of the trail, I recommend parking at River road and North Main Street in the town of Harriman (right next to Mary Harriman Park). Do not ignore verbal warnings or bicycle bells. It is a popular trail for fitness enthusiasts and families alike. Walk, jog and bike on this 18-mile scenic route. At the bottom of the hill, there is a track running off the right side of the road down to the trail. Great for road bikes. Reward yourself and eat at Brazen for dinner. Its a really nice trail, nicely paved and wide enough that when bikers pass each other you dont feel like youre flying off the edge. Chester is 3.5 miles outside of Goshen and has a old train station there to rest. That way we all had fun and I got a good workout :)

Have a nice one. We just rode it for the first time. small street crossings. Youll gain a gentle slope as you climb out of the river bottoms toward Epworth and Farley. Crushed limestone makes it tough for road bikes. As it does not pass through towns they are off trail so not convenient to get to. It is a very long and shallow uphill almost all the way. Barges still go up and down the river, and with good timing and patience you can watch one progress through the series of locks. There are 5 miles remaining to complete the 27-mile trail. Maybe late 70s or early 80s. The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail begins in Key Largo at MM 106 by the Visitors Center (parking, restrooms) and parallels the Overseas Highway (US 1) to MM 0 in historic Key West. The DNR guy said they had just finished a million and 1/2 dollar renovation of trails and bridges due to flooding in the last 2-3 years. Established in 1992 and covering 176 acres, the Heritage Rail Trailis nearly 30miles of pure freedom. The farm has since become a tourist attraction. This is one of our favorite trails paved and beautiful! We biked from Monroe to Goshen. We will ride here again. With the two newer sections at either end the trail is now fully paved for 18.5 miles. It is well-kept and offers scenic views--from rolling fields, to bridges, to train cars, to even an old cemetery. There is much beauty to be seen along this trail and I highly recommend it. Trailside Treats abuts it and is nice (but doesnt open until noon). The trip out from Sageville is a definite climb, with a few short exceptions, but the ride back is easy and fun. But for a hybrid, mountain bike or our recumbent tandem it is just fabulous. Traversing America via Rail Trails Only (TAvRTO)on over 100 trails and more than 2,300 miles of riding, gives me perspective as to the beauty and utility of a bicycle trail. This trail is easy with a little upgrade that's even easy on the kids. It's a little too tame and populated for my taste, but I am guessing as you go further east, it is less so. Our National Road Heritage Trail extends for approximatly 6.5 miles from the Twigg Rest Area, which is on U.S.40, to the Indiana State Univeristy campus in downtown Terre Haute. The trail was very enjoyable beautiful, quiet, shaded mostly countryside. Beautifully done. However, if coming from Sageville, turn left onto Boge Road which is gravel and a bit tricky to cycle on, but the section is very short up to Hwy 20/Old Highway. Most of the route was shaded except for the railroad section. The asphalt surface between Monroe and Goshen is in excellent condition and is exceptionally wide.
